The opening of the Dhaka–Bhanga rail link via the lower deck of the Padma Bridge has brought a major change to southern transport. The 82 km line begins at Dhaka's Kamalapur station and runs through Mawa to Bhanga in Faridpur.

Journey times

Travel between Dhaka and southwestern districts used to take 10 to 12 hours by road. The rail journey now covers the same distance in two and a half to three and a half hours. Passengers also enjoy elevated views of the Padma River and the bridge — making the trip something of an experience in its own right.

Stations and services

Mawa station is one of the line's most important. Passengers there have easy onward access to Mawa ghat and the bridge area, and the station offers modern facilities: waiting areas, ticket counters, and dedicated parking.

When the full line opens

The complete Dhaka–Jashore corridor will run to 169 km. Once fully operational, it will dramatically shorten travel times to Jashore, Khulna, and Barisal. The line is also planned to connect into the wider Trans-Asian Railway network, adding a regional dimension to trade and tourism well beyond Bangladesh's borders.
