A district-level imam conference was recently held in Munshiganj to promote voter awareness ahead of upcoming electoral exercises. Jointly organised by the District Administration and the Islamic Foundation Munshiganj, the conference brought together mosque imams from all six upazilas of the district.
Purpose
The main purpose was to inform local citizens about the importance of exercising their right to vote. The participation of imams matters here because they reach a large proportion of residents directly through weekly Friday congregations.
Topics discussed
The conference covered voter list verification, maintaining peaceful conditions at polling centres, encouraging women's participation in voting, and awareness of Election Commission guidelines. Participating imams noted that explaining civic responsibility through familiar religious vocabulary tends to improve turnout, particularly in rural areas.
Administrative support
District officials said similar awareness activities will continue in coming months and expand to the upazila level. Additional workshops are also being planned for educational institutions, youth organisations, and local government representatives.
