Four Bangladeshi universities have jointly taken the top national position in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, released on Wednesday, 30 September. Jahangirnagar University, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), Daffodil International University and North South University were all placed in the 801-1000 band worldwide.
Because THE lists institutions alphabetically within each band, the four share the top spot in Bangladesh. This year's edition assessed 2,297 universities from 118 countries and territories.
In total, 25 Bangladeshi universities received a ranking, while another 10 were given reporter status. In the 1001-1200 band were Bangladesh Agricultural University, BUET, BRAC University, Gazipur Agricultural University, IUBAT, Jashore University of Science and Technology, the University of Dhaka and the University of Rajshahi.
Universities were judged on five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook. AIUB, which was in the 1201-1500 bracket two editions ago, is among the institutions that moved up into the leading band this year.
