Bangladesh formally opened its embassy in Ireland on 1 October 2026, giving the Bangladeshi community there a resident diplomatic mission of its own in Dublin.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the embassy has started its administrative work from a temporary chancery office at Alexandra House in Ballsbridge, the diplomatic quarter of Dublin. Ambassador-designate Mohammed Nore Alam took charge of the mission on the same day. He is expected to present his Letters of Credence to the President of Ireland in due course.

Services for around 25,000 Bangladeshis

According to the ministry, an estimated 25,000 Bangladeshi nationals live in Ireland. The new embassy will work to strengthen ties with this community and will, in time, offer passport, visa and other consular services to Bangladeshi nationals and other eligible applicants.

The ministry said the embassy is now making arrangements to begin these services. Dates, procedures and other details will be announced through official channels. Until then, community members should follow the ministry's and the embassy's own announcements before planning any application.

Closer ties with Ireland

The government described the opening as an important step in relations between the two countries. It said the mission would provide a dedicated platform for diplomatic engagement and for cooperation in areas of mutual interest, and that Dhaka looks forward to deepening friendly and mutually beneficial relations with Ireland.

Once consular services begin, a resident embassy in Dublin is expected to make routine paperwork such as passport renewals easier to arrange for people living in Ireland.

People from Munshiganj and the wider Bikrampur region are part of the Bangladeshi diaspora across Europe. For those living in Ireland, the new mission means an official Bangladeshi office within reach in Dublin and a single point of contact for dealings with the state at home.

The ministry said further information about the embassy's services, including how to contact it, would be published as arrangements are completed.
